From Honey to Forests: How One Bee Farmer Is Protecting Mount Cameroon
A global biodiversity hotspot under pressure.

Mount Cameroon is one of Africa’s most ecologically diverse landscapes, home to rare species and the fragile ecosystems increasingly threatened by human activities and climate change.

A local solution takes root.
In Vasingi Village, apiculturist Evambe Thompson has turned his home into a tree nursey- the starting point of his Green Village project.

Operation 1000 Trees.
The project aims to produce and distribute fruit trees and non-timber forest species to restore degraded forest areas around Mount Cameroon

Operation 1000 Trees.
Thompson trains local residents in modern beekeeping, which is an alternative that protects forest while sustaining incomes.

Pollinators at the heart of conservation.
Thompson currently has 48 hives and over 168,00 bees. This farm supports pollination, tree regeneration and food security.

Nature working in balance.
Trees planted within the apiary provide nectar for bees while restoring forest cover — a cycle that benefits both livelihoods and biodiversity.

Results that speak.
according to the MCNP authorities, since 2021, over 100 beekpers have been supported, producing more than 1,000 litters of honey and generating millions of CFA francs in Income.
